Misc notes | Cœdès has explained that the Sanskrit inscription on face I and II belong to a monk who held the position of a ‘royal monk’. He constructed 4 stone Bai Sema, probably inclusive of this stone post with these inscriptions and carved image, and also a vihāra to which he made donations. Other portions of the inscription involve curses while the section in Khmer is damaged (see Jenner’s discussion, CONCORDANCE). The royal monk was titled upadhayāya and his holy place, which was probably situated in Hin Khon, was named Sraubrā, Srobrā or Srobrā-a as mentioned in a second inscription. The inscription on the face II ends with a list of what the monk donated and the list extends to face III. The writing on face IV says that the royal monk was Chao (or Phra Chao) Nṛpendrādhipativarman, the son of a nobleman whose name was similar. Both of them probably belonged to a local royal clan. |
