Details A cave in a large hummock of gneiss rock at Habässa in Ūva Province. At this site are two long and narrow hummocks of gneiss rock running north-west to south-east. Both have steep overhanging sides, forming a number of caves with drip-ledges. This site was the location of an ancient monastery. On the western side of the southerly range of rock is a very large cave containing a colossal recumbent Buddha image. To the west of this cave are a large ruined stupa and the remains of numerous monastic buildings. The present cave is one of three caves located at the southern extremity of this range of rock. It has a second-century inscription engraved on one of its walls (IN03198).
