PYU7 Stone pillar inscription from Myazedi pagoda, Myinkaba, Pagan

The quadrilingual inscription was first mentioned by de Beylié 1907b: 9, 83, 108 with an estampage of the Pali and Pyu faces (“texte en langue inconnue”). Blagden 1911: (A) is a detailed study of the Pyu face, with estampages, a complete transliteration and translation, notes on where the A pillar (PYU7, the present inscription) and the B pillar (PYU8, another copy) diverge, a glossary and analysis of script and language. Duroiselle & Taw Sein Ko 1919: I, 1, 59-68 (A) makes some changes to Blagden’s transliteration and provides a better glossary. Blagden’s work provides the basis for Shafer 1943: 320-37,340-44, 357-63, a linguistic study of the text which leans heavily on comparison with the Pali face and which culminates in a new transliteration, word-for-word glosses and a full translation. Tha Myat 1963: 53-61 includes his own transliteration (in Burmese script) and an English translation. In Phases of pre-Pagán Burma (1985): I, 62-4, 74 n. 15, Luce provides a brief overview. Krech 2012: 153-65 (A) is a complete re-reading of the Pyu face, with epigraphical and linguistic analysis, but with some odd readings and phonological re-interpretations.
