Details |
A fragment of a stone slab engraved with 21 lines in the Sinhalese script of the tenth century A.D. The letters of the inscription are engraved between ruled lines one inch (2.54 cm) apart. The lower portion of the slab is missing but the inscription is complete, apart from the first two lines, which are too weathered to be read. The slab was found in an ancient and overgrown vihara, where it had been used as an improvised guardstone. However, this does not appear to have been its original function. The surface of the slab has been worn away and rendered smooth by some kind of friction.
