Date | The liṅga was first documented in 1956 by Gnoli, Raniero (Nepalese Inscriptions in Gupta Characters. Roma: Is. M. E. O. Plate 64, Inscription 65, p. 87). He wrote that it was found in the central hills of Deopātan near the Paśupati Temple. Regmi in 1983 wrote that the liṅga was standing in a private garden of a house in Deopātan, near the western gate of the Paśupati Temple (Regmi, Dilli Raman. Inscriptions of Ancient Nepal. 1983. Vol. 1. p. 116). Mirnig in 2016 reports that the liṅga is now lost ("Early Strata of Śaivism in the Kathmandu Valley". 2016. Indo-Iranian Journal, 59:4; p. 327). |
