Details | A granite boulder about 1.6 km east of Junāgaḍh, at the opening of a gorge that leads to a valley around the Girnār mountain. The inscription is on the southern face according to Prinsep 1838b: 337, and on the northwestern face according to Fleet 1888: 57. The same boulder holds 14 inscriptions of Aśoka (on the eastern side according to Prinsep) and the inscription of Rudradāman (on the western side according to Prinsep). The inscriptions of Skandagupta's time are hard to read because, apart from erosion, the engraving is irregular, the natural patterns of the rock obstruct some of it, while some portions of the rock surface were left blank because of their irregularity. |
