Details Dimensions shown are as measured on the original stone. Chakravarti 1941-42: 130 reports the dimensions quite accurately, but he describes the stone as a slab, which is misleading. It is in fact a block, the inscribed face of which is 35 centimetres wide and 18 centimetres tall. The block is roughly rectangular but the back (the side opposite the inscription) is at an angle, so that the depth is 27 centimetres on the left and only 22 centimetres on the right. The left-hand side is irregularly broken, affecting the inscribed face and extending all the way to the back. The stone was probably a building block used in the side of the well described in the inscription. It may have been cut and reused for some other building later on. The index of Bhandarkar 1981: 368 refers to this as a pillar inscription, which is a mistake.
