Details | A smoothed and countersunk panel on the façade of the cave, to the north (viewer's right) of the entrance. In the dimensions above (quoted from Agrawala), depth stands for the depth of sinking back from the rock face. Below the panel there are four sculptural niches; the panel is about as wide as one such niche, centred above the niches. The two reliefs below the panel are a figure of a four-armed Viṣṇu with two small wives or attendants, and a twelve-armed Mahiṣāsuramardinī. The carved doorway is flanked by two dvārapālas. There is also another (smaller) Viṣṇu to the south of the entrance, and a high relief of Gaṇeśa on the south side wall of the porch. The cave is on the eastern side of the hill, a little to the south of the village and almost on the level of the ground. It was named "Chandragupta Cave" by Cunningham and is now referred to as Cave 6. |
